Forest staffer killed in tiger attack

A 50-year-old employee of the Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) was killed by a tiger in the core area of the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) today, a Forest official said.

According to the official, Mangaldas Choudhary was apparently attacked by the big cat at around 6 am when he had stepped out of his residential quarters to attend nature's call near a lake.

He said the victim, a resident of Navegaon in Chimur tehsil of the district, was working as a Watcher on contract for FDCM.

Meanwhile, Chief Conservator of Forests cum Field Director (TATR) has clarified that the incident has no connection with with ongoing 'water-hole census' in the region.
