Foreign exchange earnings from tourism in August this year increased to Rs 8,139 crore as against Rs 7,260 crore in August, 2012, registering a growth of 12.1 per cent.
Foreign tourist arrivals in August, 2013 was 4.74 lakh as against 4.46 lakh in August 2012, an increase of 6.4 per cent, according to Tourism Ministry data.
There were total 43.06 lakh foreign tourists during January-August 2013 as compared to 41.56 lakh during January to August 2012, a growth of 3.6 per cent.
Forex earnings from tourism during January to August 2013 were Rs 67,712 crore as compared to Rs 59,409 crore during the same period last year, registering a growth of 14 per cent.
