The former Vice-chancellor of Anna University R Radhakrishnan was today arrested after a non-bailable warrant was issued by a court for failing to appear before it in connection with a case registered by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption against him.

Radhakrishan was arrested from his house here and produced before the Vigilance Court judge K R Madurasekaran, who remanded him to judicial custody till August 31.

The DVAC had registered the case against the former VC for allegedly taking bribe for the purchase of furniture in 2008 and 2009 and possessing disproportionate assets worth Rs 1.37 crore in his name and that of his wife.

Though the Vigilance Court had earlier issued summons to him twice, Radhakrishnan, who was suspended from his post, had failed to appear before it, following which a non-bailable warrant was issued.
