A former Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) of Police was today sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment by a special vigilance court for accepting a bribe of Rs 7,500.

Special Vigilance Judge Dhirendra Kumar Patnaik awarded RI to Bijay Kumar Nayak and slapped on him a fine of Rs 6,000. In default, the accused would have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for another three months.

The judge delivered the judgment after hearing the deposition of ten witnesses.

Nayak was arrested on June 12, 2007 after he was trapped by vigilance sleuths while receiving the bribe money from the complainant, vigilance sources said.
