Former Bihar minister dies in Dumka residence

A freedom fighter and former Tourism and Wakf Minister of Bihar, Md Sayeed passed away after prolonged illness at his residence in Dangalpara Mohalla in Dumka district this evening, family sources said.

The 93-year-old was not keeping well for last few days, said his son Md. Faheem.

Sayeed had won the assembly poll from Mahagama constituency (now Godda district of Jharkhand) in 1969 on Communist Party of India ticket. He joined the JP Movement after he snapped ties with the Communist party.

He won again from the Mahagama seat on Janata Party ticket in 1977 following the Emergency imposed in 1975 and became a minister in the Bihar Cabinet.
 

He had played an active role in the 1942 freedom struggle.
