Former BJP MP Anna Joshi passes away after prolonged illness

Former BJP MP Anna Joshi today died at a city hospital, after a prolonged illness.

Joshi (80), who won the 1991 Lok Sabha election from Pune constituency in Maharashtra, was the first BJP MP elected from the city.

He had also served as member of the Maharashtra state legislature for three terms, besides holding the post of deputy speaker of the state Legislative Assembly.

Joshi was also deputy mayor of Pune and Chairman of the Maharashtra Khadi Gramodyog Mahamandal.

Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Girish Bapat (BJP) condoled Joshi's death and hailed his organisational abilities which strengthened the BJP at the grassroot level.
