Former BJP MP S P Singh Baghel today surrendered before a court here in connection with a case of poll violence against him and was sent to jail on 14 days judicial remand.

Baghel, his brother retired inspector Vishambhar Singh and another person surrendered before additional district judge Rajendra Singh.

A case against Baghel, a former Rajya Sabha MP who fought unsuccessfully in this year Lok Sabha elections, and others was lodged after he along with his hundreds of supporters sat on dharna at the Subhash trisection here on April 24 alleging malpractices in polling.

After police resorted to baton charge, the dharna turned violent as protestors also set a police jeep on fire.

Two days ago, a notice of initiating attachment proceedings against him was pasted at his house after which he surrendered in the court today.
