Tributes were paid to freedom fighter and veteran Congress leader, the late K Kamaraj, in Tamil Nadu today on the occasion of his 112th birth anniversary.

Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa and her cabinet colleagues paid floral tributes to the leader's statue and portrait here.

State Congress leaders also paid tributes to him at the party's state headquarters "Sathyamurthy Bhavan" even as leaders from various parties and organisations remembered the former Chief Minister at his native Viruthunagar.

A Congress icon respected across party lines, Kamaraj as Chief Minister is credited with ushering in some revolutionary social and industrial initiatives including the noon-meal scheme targeting children from poor families.

He was also known for his simplicity in public life and was known to be a leader who shunned any type of grandeur.

The social media was also abuzz with posts praising him.
