Former minister Danam Nagender, who resigned from the Congress yesterday, said he would be joining the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
He alleged that only one community got prominence in the Congress and said the backward classes got a raw deal.
Nagender, who had served as a minister in the Congress government during 2009-2014, said incumbent Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao worked for the welfare of various sections in the society similar to the way late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy (chief minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh) did.
"Rajasekhara Reddy had given importance to backward classes and minorities after he became the chief minister. However, unfortunately today, just see who occupies the stage whenever a meeting is held in Gandhi Bhavan (state Congress headquarters)," he said.
Replying to a query, Nagender said he would shortly announce when he would be joining the TRS.
He praised the numerous welfare schemes launched by the TRS government.
