Former Congress MLA passes away at 88

The first Congress MLA from Kinnaur constituency of Himachal Pradesh, Gian Singh Negi, died at his native place in Kalpa area due to old-age related ailments.

88-year-old Negi, the father of Himachal Pradesh Assembly's Deputy Speaker Jagat Singh Negi, was elected from Kinnaur Assembly seat in 1951 and 1962. He passed away last night.

He also remained vice chairman of H P Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Corporation and Member of State Scheduled Tribes Advisory Council.

Governor Kalyan Singh and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh have mourned the death of Negi and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family members.

Virbhadra Singh said that Negi worked hard for strengthening the Congress while serving on various posts and his contribution towards development of the state, especially the tribal areas would always be remembered.
 

Vidhan Sabha Speaker BBL Butail, Vidya Stokes, Kaul Singh Thakur, G S Bali, Sujan Singh Pathania, Thakur Singh Bharmouri and several other people have expressed grief over the demise of Negi.
