Former Goa Rural Development Minister Francisco Miccky Pacheco, who is currently undergoing prison sentence for hitting a government official, has applied for parole.

Jail authorities said Pacheco has applied for 30 days parole on grounds that he needs to attend his ailing mother.

"Pacheco has sought for 30 days parole on grounds that his mother is sick and he needs to look after her," a senior jail official said.

The former minister is currently lodged in Sada sub jail after he surrendered before the court on last Monday.

Pacheco's application for parole has been submitted to the Jailer and will be forwarded to the competent authority for decision, the officer said.

Pacheco was sentenced to six months imprisonment for slapping a junior engineer of electricity department in 2006.
