A special court here today awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment to a former Madhya Pradesh Food and Drug Administration Department official for amassing Rs 26 lakh worth assets disproportionate to known sources of his income.
Special court judge B K Paloda sentenced Vinod Kumar Mehrotra under Prevention of Corruption Act and also imposed a fine of Rs Rs 16.35 lakh.
The sentence was pronounced nineteen years after Mehrotra's places were raided. The court examined 58 witnesses and material on record.

After a detailed investigation, the prosecuting agency found that Mehrotra had movable and immovable properties worth Rs 26,61,672 whereas his legitimate or actual income was Rs 8,13,122, he added.
Mehrotra was charge-sheeted in April 2004, Soni said.
