Former gram pradhan, bank official held on cheating charges

A former village head and a former official of an Allahabad Bank branch here have been arrested for allegedly withdrawing Rs 18 lakh after submitting forged documents of farmers, police said today.

Former gram pradhan Brijbir Singhof Badhai village and an ex-branch manager of Allahabad Bank at Rohana were arrested yesterday, police said.

According to a case filed in August last year by Branch Manager Manohar Lal, the accused had withdrawn the sum by submitting forged documents of 13 farmers of Rohana village.

The matter came to light when notices were issued to the 13 farmers and they claimed they had never received the sum.
 

Five other persons have been made co-accused.
