Former Gujarat BJP MLA Mahesh Bhuriya was today arrested as an accused in a murder case, a senior police officer said.

Talking to PTI here tonight, Deputy Superintendent of Police J C Kotiya said, "Bhuriya was arrested from the city."

Bhuriya's guard, Dhira Bhabor, had allegedly shot dead a man near Limdi town, and the Gujarat High Court had ordered that an offence be registered against him.

Mathur Sangadiya, the father of Raman Sangadiya who was killed in the firing, had alleged that his son and two others had travelled in Bhuriya's car on the evening of February 2, 2010.

Mathur Sangadiya had alleged that a dispute over money and not a robbery bid was the reason for the shooting.

After the high court order, an FIR was registered at Limdi police station.

Investigations in the case were later transferred to the Dahod local crime branch.

Bhuriya had claimed that his guard had fired in "self defence" while he tried to prevent a robbery bid.

According to Bhuriya, on February 2, 2010, he stopped his car near Karajkheda Bridge in Limbdi taluka. When a gang allegedly tried to rob a couple, Shabbir Nalavala and his wife Tasneem, Bhuriya claimed that his guard retaliated after the gang opened fire.

Raman Sangaditya, a resident of Garbada taluka in Dahod district, who was allegedly part of the gang, died on the spot.
