The Uttar Pradesh government tonight suspended former SP of Jalaun district that witnessed violence after bodies of two sisters were recovered in sacks.

Rakesh Shanker, who was attached with the DGP headquarters yesterday, was suspended by the state government late night, an official spokesman said here.

The government had yesterday itself appointed SP (railway) Lucknow Sunil Kumar Saxena as the SP of Jalaun.

Nine persons, including five policemen, were yesterday injured when a mob clashed with the police after the bodies of two minor sisters were recovered.

Bodies of Netu (16) and Vaishali (18) were found in sacks in the Noon river under the Dhamni Bridge on Saturday.

Their family members alleged that the girls were kidnapped on September 22. Yesterday, they kept the bodies at Machchar Crossing and accused police of shielding the accused.

On getting information, police had reached the spot and used water cannon to disperse the people. The crowd then turned violent and indulged in brick-batting in which five policemen were injured.

The mob was later pacified on the assurance of senior officials.
