Former Jammu University VC takes charge as advisor to J&K CM

Former vice-chancellor of Jammu University Prof. Amitabh Mattoo today assumed office as Advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

Mattoo assumed office in presence of B B Vyas, the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Director General Information Zaffar Ahmad Bhat and other senior officers of the state government, an official spokesman said.

Born on June 26, 1962 in Srinagar, Mattoo is one of India's leading thinkers and writers on international relations.

He has been the Chief Executive Officer and inaugural Director of the Australia India Institute and Professor of International Relations at the University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
 

Mattoo has also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University and Professor of Disarmament Studies at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

He has been a Member of the National Knowledge Commission, a high-level advisory group to the Prime Minister. Mattoo is also President of the Indian Association of International Studies.
