Former Janata Party MP Bateswar Hembram passed away following protracted illness at his Kothia Borabad residence in Dumka district, family sources said Wednesday.
He died on Tuesday at the age of 87, one of his grandsons Omprakash Hembram said.
He was born on April 30, 1931 and survived by a son, three daughters and six grandchildren, Omprakash said.
Hembram contested as a Janata Party candidate in 1977 and defeated Congress nominee Prithivichandra Kisko.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das expressed condolence following the death of Hembram.
