Former Kiss lead guitarist Ace Frehley has been hospitalised for exhaustion and forced to cancel a show in New York.

A post on his website and Facebook page says the 64-year-old musician was admitted to a hospital after Friday's show at the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, reported Ace Showbiz.

The post says his symptoms are due to 'exhaustion and dehydration,' he has 'reluctantly' agreed to cancel Saturday night's sold-out show at The Chance in Poughkeepsie.

"After extensive testing, it was determined that Ace's symptoms were due to exhaustion and dehydration," the statement read.

"In consultation with his doctors, Ace, who aside from the exhaustion and dehydration has been given a clean bill of health, has reluctantly agreed to cancel the sold out show at the Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY. The venue is working to reschedule the date in late September and expects to announce an exact date later this week."

It added: "Once released from the hospital, Ace will be heading home to Southern California to recuperate. We wish him a speedy recovery.
