Former LF minister granted bail in land scam case

CPI(M) leader and former Left Front minister in West Bengal Gautam Deb was today granted bail by a city court where he appeared in connection with a land scam.

C Sinha, magistrate at 4th special court of Bankshall Court here granted bail to Deb, former housing minister, on a surety of Rs 2,000 in connection with an alleged land scandal at Jot Shibrampur in the Maheshtala police station area in South 24-Parganas district.

A criminal case had been filed by the Housing department at Taltala police station in April, 2013 alleging that a land deal between the Housing Board of the state government and two private companies during the previous Left Front regime had caused a loss of Rs 21.37 crore to the exchequer.
 

The CID, which was entrusted by the state government with investigation into the case, filed chargesheet against 17 persons including Deb.

They were charged under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of IPC.
