Zaki also held a meeting with National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon and Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai, official sources said without stating what transpired in the meeting.
With continued political instability in Maldives, India has underlined for an urgent need for dialogue and reconciliation among all political parties in there.
New Delhi has also been concerned over recent anti-India demonstrations and statements by a section in Maldives.
Zaki was among the top leaders of ousted President Mohamed Nasheed's party MDP who were arrested in the Maldivian capital city of Male on the charge of alcohol consumption last week. However, MDP alleged the arrests were "politically motivated".
