Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said present generation of politicians and public servants has a lot to learn from veteran Congress leader and former Meghalaya governor M M Jacob.

Speaking at a function to felicitate Jacob on the occasion of his "sathabhishekam" (85th birthday) celebrations here, Singh said Jacob represented the old school of politicians and administrators.

Lauding the positions held by Jacob, Singh said as Governor of Meghalaya, Jacob took keen interest in preserving the rich tribal cultural traditions of that state.

Stating that Jacob's public career has been long and eventful, Singh said, "He has excellent qualities of head and heart, so rarely found in politicians in these days. His whole career has been built on the bedrock of ethical conduct."

Kerala Governor Nikil Kumar, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC President and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and Union Minister K V Thomas were among those present on the occasion.
