Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) LT Hrangchal has formally joined the ruling Congress on Monday and would be a party candidate in the November 28 assembly election, sources in the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee said.

Hrangchal may contest from Chalfilh seat which is currently represented by Dr H Ngurdingliana of the Congress, the sources said.

He is likely to be pitted against Lalrinliana Sailo, who quit the Congress and joined the Mizo National Front (MNF) last week.
