Former Mizoram health minister Lal Thanzara of the ruling Congress today filed his nomination papers for the Assembly bypoll to the Aizawl North - III seat.
Lal Thanzara was the first and the only one who filed nomination for the by-polls till today.
Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) sources said that the party candidate and main opponent K. Vanlalvena would file his nomination papers by tomorrow, the last date for filing of nomination for the by-poll.
Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) and its electoral ally BJP were yet to announce the name of its candidate though a top ZNP leader told PTI that the NDA intended to contest the by-election.
The by-poll, necessitated by the resignation of Lal Thanzara on August 18 over alleged 'conflict of interests' case, would be held on November 21.
