On the recommendations of a disciplinary action committee, eight leaders, including Shailendra Singh Rawat, a former MLA, have been expelled from the party for six years for allegedly indulging in anti-party activities, Uttarakhand BJP General Secretary Dhan Singh Rawat said.

Shailendra, who had represented Kotdwar Assembly seat in 2007-12, was denied ticket in 2012 Assembly elections and instead former Chief Minister B C Khanduri was fielded.

As Khanduri lost, allegations were levelled that his defeat was due to infighting within the BJP.

Besides Shailendra, those who have been expelled are Harshvardhan Binjola, Geeta Budakoti, Surat Singh Rawat, Ajay Semwal, Vikram Singh, Vinod Farswan and Mahesh Jyuri.
