A family court here has granted divorce to former national-level shooter Tara Shahdeo, who had alleged that her husband married her by giving false information about his religion.

The court of B K Goutam yesterday allowed the divorce petition filed by Shahdeo, her counsel L C N Shahdeo said today.

The petition was filed on January 6, 2017, on the ground that the marriage took place on the basis of false information about Ranjit Kohli alias Raqibul Hassan's religion, which subsequently led to cruelty against Tara Shahdeo by her husband, the counsel said.

The rifle shooter had also alleged that her husband, Kholi, had put pressure on her to change her religion.

The issue allegedly to be a case of "love jihad" had hogged national attention four years ago.

Considering its gravity the Union Home Ministry had sought a report on the matter.

Tara Shahdeo had filed an FIR with the Hindpiri police station on August 19, 2014, and Kohli was arrested on August 26 in the same year from Delhi.
