Former President APJ Abdul Kalam will on Sept. 27 dedicate to the public the second phase of a convention centre here with senior BJP leader LK Advani set to be the chief guest at the function, party members have said.

Talking to reporters here, BJP MP Lalji Tandon said that construction work on the convention centre had begun with assistance from the local area development fund of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Other MPs and MLAs, too, had pitched in with money for the centre, he added.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 25 crore, Tandon said that the convention centre had, among others, auditoriums with seating capacity of between 200 to 1,200 people, a dining hall and parking facility for 250 vehicles.

The maintenance of the centre was being done by a management committee under King George Medical University.
