Former Rajya Sabha MP Mulhupra Vero passes away

Former Rajya Sabha MP Mulhupra Vero died here on Friday after a brief illness, family sources said.

He was 88. Vero is survived by his wife and two children.

He was the first person from Nagaland to become a member of the Rajya Sabha.

Vero was a member of the Upper House of Parliament for two terms from 1964 to 1974.

He was elected to Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) from Phek constituency in 1974. In 1989 he was elected to the state assembly from Chozuba seat and became a Nagaland cabinet minister.

In 1995, he was appointed chairman of the Liaison Committee of Naga Hoho and also became the first president of the Naga Hoho from 1998-2004.

 

Vero's funeral service will be held on Saturday at Agri Expo, 4th mile Dimapur after which his body will be taken to his native village Runguzu in Phek district for burial.
