The special court for anti-corruption bureau (ACB) cases here today sentenced a former tehsildar to one year's rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him in a case of bribery.

Kummari Balakishan, the then tehsildar of Mahamutharam mandal, had demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000 from a man for recommending him for the post of village servant in the place of his father who had died. The man then complained to ACB.

On January 19, 2009, ACB laid a trap and caught Balakishan red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000.

Judge P Bhaskar Rao, after examining as many as eight witnesses, convicted the accused today.
