Former President of the Tripura unit of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Surajit Datta has resigned from the party.

"I have resigned from TMC and sent my resignation to Mamata Banerjee, but not going to disclose the reason now. I am discussing the matter with my supporters and future course of actions would be drawn soon", Datta told reporters here today.

Datta, a former PWD minister of the state and five time MLA had joined the TMC in September, 2013.

"I was tired of sitting idle, because my party did not entrust me any job", he said.

TMC Tripura unit president, Ashish Saha, who is now camping in Kolkata told reporters over phone that he would not comment immediately about the resignation.

He said, Mamata Banerjee assured a team of TMC leaders of Tripura yesterday that she would address a gathering in the second week of May to intensify campaign against the Left Front Government in Tripura.
