Former Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Prof Jamini Mohan Choudhury died due to old age, family sources said today.
He was 97 and is survived by two daughters and a son.
His wife had predeceased him.
He was the Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University from 1979 to 1986.
He had graduated from Benares Hindi University in 1949 and had joined Gauhati University in 1950.
He had done his doctorate in geology from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, United Kingdom.
