Kallu, who retired yesterday from the post of Vice Chancellor, had come to the university today for handing over the charge to the acting VC, Dr L N Pathak, university sources said.
Some agitated students belonging to National Students Union of India and employees, who were annoyed with Kallu, barged into the VC's office raising slogans against him and later blackened his face.
They also ransacked the office of the VC, following which police were called. The police used mild force to restore order in the university, sources said.
Kallu also had a dispute with the acting VC on number of issues, they said.
Meanwhile, the agitated students also defecated an effigy of Kallu by urinating on it.
When Kallu was leaving the office from the rearside, NSUI workers chased him, following which police again used force to disperse them.
Some of the students pelted stones at the police, the sources added.
