To celebrate LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) 'Pride Month,' American Center in Kolkata is having a two-week program on spreading awareness on the rights of sexual minorities.

The series of programs around LGBT issues to celebrate 'Pride Month' will include interactive sessions with students and activists, and a Pride Workshop to develop thematic artwork for Kolkata Rainbow Pride Walk on July 7.

Hundreds of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders will march from Hazra Crossing to Academy of Fine Arts to raise support for LGBT rights.

"The events include not only members of the LGBT community but students, young people and civil society at large. We want to bring diverse groups together to discuss the challenges and successes that the LGBT community faces. It is critical for everyone to know that LGBT rights are human rights," Rachel Sunden, Deputy Director of American Center, said today.

During the period, American Centre would also screen various Hollywood and Bollywood films focusing on LGBT rights.

The American Center has created a signature batik-printed rainbow flag, designed and hand-crafted last year by local artisans and NGO Karma Kutir, for this program.
