Union Minister Rajen Gohain today laid the foundation stone for railway projects worth Rs 3618 crore on Kanyakumari-Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram section at a function here.
The Minister of state for Railways also launched various facilities at the Nagercoil Junction railway station.
Gohain laid the foundation stone for the doubling and electrification projects covering 349 km in this sector, a Southern Railway release said.

Gohain also inaugurated an escalator, Wi-Fi services and 100 per cent LED lighting at Nagercoil Junction, it added.
The release quoted Gohain as saying Indian Railways was making "continued efforts" to enhance facilities for passengers and that more customer-oriented amenities were being implemented.
He said the outlay for Tamil Nadu this fiscal was Rs 2287 crore.
Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan and local MLAs participated in the function.
