Union Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi today laid the foundation stone of the Rs 45-crore Visakhapatnam-Bheemunipatnam Beach Corridor Tourism Circuit project at the Bheemunipatnam beach here.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the Centre had sanctioned tourism projects worth Rs 221 crore for Andhra Pradesh in the last last six months, and many more were in the pipeline.

Tourism destinations in the Madhurawada hills in Visakhapatnam district would be developed at the cost of Rs 1,000 crore, he said.

As a part of the 30 km Visakhapatnam-Bheemunipatnam Beach Corridor project, sites such as Ramakrishna beach, Kailasagiri, Rushikonda beach, Bavikonda, Thotlakonda Erramatti Dibbalu, Mangamaripeta and Bheemunipatnam beach including Pavuralakonda would be developed. The project is estimated to take 18 months.

It would position Visakhapatnam as a world-class tourism destination, Chiranjeevi said.
