A police team led by Jajpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak Kumar chased the gang and arrested its members near a hotel at Vyas Nagar last night. Police also seized four pistols, live bullets, weapons and a car from their possession, the sources said.
The gang members have been identified as Atis Mohanty, 31, of Sainkul, Ramachandrapur in Keonjhar, Sanidhya Mohanty, 25, Chhatia in Jajpur, Ashis Lenka, 26, of Korei in Jajpur and Indul Sankar of Uttar pradesh, they said.
"These miscreants were chalking out a plan to commit dacoity at a big commercial house in Vyas Nagar municipal area last night. On a tip off, our police team reached the spot and over powered two of them near a hotel in the town at about 10 pm last night. They were immediately interrogated and according to their revelation police also arrested other two members of the gang from the town," the SP said.
According to the police the arrested were hardened criminals wanted in connection with several cases of robbery, theft and dacoity.
