Four persons, including a local politician, who allegedly belongs to the BJP, were arrested on charges of attempting to kidnap a dentist here.

The politician has been identified as Nishant Satsangi, 34, who had contested the 2013 Madhya Pradesh assembly elections on a BSP ticket from Bhopal. He joined BJP a year ago and was active in the party, according to media reports.

However, state BJP president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan told PTI that Satsangi was not a party member.

Satsangi and his accomplices tried to kidnap Dr Akhilesh Jain, a resident of E-7 Arera Colony here, on the morning of August 21, and in the ensuing scuffle injured him, Inspector Sudhir Arjaria of Habibganj police station said.

Dr Jain raised alarm and resisted the accused. Some people ran to his help, foiling the kidnapping attempt, he said.

While Satsangi, Akash Dahiya, 22, Dheeraj Sharma, 36, and Neeraj Javade, 30, were arrested yesterday, police were looking for the fifth accused Yogesh Solanki.

According to police, Satsangi needed money to pay off a debt of Rs 35 lakh. He had planned to demand Rs 2 crore as ransom from Dr Jain.

The matter is being investigated, police said.
