With the arrest of four persons, police in Ganjam and Kandhamal districts today claimed to have busted a gang of bike lifters and recovered 14 motor-cycles.

Five motor-cycles were recovered from Rabindra Swain of Aska in Ganjam district. He had allegedly looted these from Berhampur and Pitala. Nine stolen bikes were recovered from Baliguda in Kandhamal district the previous day.

"Kapilash Sahu of Sindhigaon, Golak Digal and Babula Digal, both natives of Badagaon, were nabbed from different places in Kandhamal district," said Sun-Divisional Police Officer (Baliguda), S N Murmu.

Police said Swain, a motor mechanic, stole motorcycles and sold them at a throw away price. He was arrested after a stolen motorcycle was recovered from the medical area at Aska recently. "Those who bought motor-cycles from Swain have voluntarily surrendered them," said SDPO (Aska) A K Mohanty.

"We suspect an inter-district bike lifting gang is operating in the two districts. The key persons are from Berhampur town," said a senior police officer.

Police said some other members of the gang have been identified and will be nabbed soon.
