Three alleged bovine smugglers were arrested after they were intercepted from separate places and 19 animals were rescued in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said Monday.
A truck illegally carrying 10 bovine animals was intercepted at Chingus and the driver was arrested, a police spokesman said.
He added that seven more animals were recovered from two load carriers during checking on the Rajouri-Kandi road.
Both the drivers were arrested for allegedly attempting to transport the bovine animals illegally, the spokesman said.
He said another police party rescued two bovine animals, which were being taken by foot by a suspected smuggler on the Thandapani-Patrara road.
However, the suspect fled on noticing the police party and efforts were on to identify and arrest him, the spokesman said.
