Four-day theatre festival begins in Kolkata

A four-day theatre festival has begun amid much fanfare as leading dramatists from across the country gathered here to present their productions before the Kolkata audience.

The first day of the 15th edition of the Vodafone Odeon Theatre Festival witnessed performances by winners of a contest between college groups and budding theatre associations, a statement issued by the organizers said today.

The participants were mentored by legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee and theatre personalities Bratya Basu, Debshankar Haldar, Goutam Haldar, Meghnad Bhattacharya among others, it said.

The festival lineup also includes performances by Bollywood actor Sharman Joshi and Marathi theatre and TV personality Tejashri Pradhan at GD Birla Sabhaghar, the statement added.
 

"This is an initiative to give young and talented theatre artists a platform to showcase their talent," Vodafone India Business Head (Kolkata & rest of Bengal) Arvinder Singh Sachdev said.
