Four die due to mysterious disease in Bihar

Four persons have died at a government hospital here due to a mysterious disease over the past three days, a doctor said today.

One Sanjay Yadav (38)and his two daughters Baby Kumari (18) and Reshmi Kumari (8) died due to a mysterious disease at the Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMCH) on Friday last, its Head of Department (Medicine) Dr P K Sinha said.

The victims were suffering from high fever and related symptoms, he said.

Another patient Rekha Devi (40) having similar symptoms died last night, while her two daughters were undergoing treatment with similar symptoms at a private hospital, Sinha said.
 

All four victims and two sick girls hailed from Jewal Bigha locality under Rampur police station area, he said.

Meanwhile, Gaya Civil Surgeon Dr Arvind Kumar has rushed to the affected locality with eight medical teams to probe the mysterious disease which he said as suspected "viral meninjitis."

He said that the inhabitants were facing scarcity of clean drinking water about which local authorities had been apprised even as halogen capsules had been distributed among the people.

The people also lacked toilets in their houses, the civil surgeon said.
