Four geckos were seized from two persons at Totopara in this district today, forest officials said.

Acting on a tip off, forest guards intercepted a motorcycle and seized the geckos from its two riders this morning.

While one person was detained, another managed to flee.

The reptiles, worth crores of rupees in international market, were collected from a nearby forest and kept in a building in the area, they said.

Geckos are an endangered species and trading or killing them is a punishable crime under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
