One of the pipelines inside the refinery which carried diesel to storage tank got ruptured leading to the leakage of diesel which got sprayed on the four contractual workers working in a nearby storage tank, the sources told PTI.
The four got fifty per cent burn injuries when the diesel suddenly got ignited.
Asked how the diesel got ignited, the refinery sources said that they were trying to ascertain the exact reason.
They said there was a hot steamline passing through the area and if the diesel came into contact with it there was a possibility of it being ignited and added that there might be some other reason also.
The four were being brought to Kolkata for treatment since there was not adequate facility in Haldia for their treatment.
