Three women and a child went missing when a boat carrying seven people capsized in Balimela reservoir in Odisha's Malkangiri district, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when the boat sank after losing balance near Kenduguda village under the jurisdiction of Chitrakonda police station on Monday evening, they said.
While three of the occupants of the country boat managed to swim to safety, four persons went missing, said Chitrakonda Tehsildar Falguni Majhi.
On getting information, personnel of the fire brigade, Quick Response Team (QRT) and police rushed to the spot and undertook a day-long search and rescue operation to trace the missing persons, he said.
However, the team was yet to trace the three women and a girl child, when the operation was suspended in the evening due to the darkness, Majhi said, adding, the search operation would resume on Wednesday.
