Four held for betting on World Cup matches

With the arrest of four persons police today claimed to have busted a cricket betting syndicate in connection with the Australia vs Sri Lanka match played during the on-going cricket World Cup.

On the basis of a tip-off police laid a trap and arrested four from a residential building in RK Puram area of the district, police said.

The accused, identified as Imran, Mafuz Khan, Nasir Khan and Jitendra Sen, were betting on yesterday's Australia vs Sri Lanka cricket match, SHO Natrapal Singh said said.

During their interrogation transition record of Rs 2.50 lakhs along with 2 LEDs, 1 laptop, 14 mobile sets, two voice recorders and some other accessories were recovered from their possession, he added.
 

However, they were released on bail and investigation is underway, Singh said.
