Four held for looting electonic goods worth Rs 97 lakh

With the arrest of four persons from Pune district, Thane police today claimed to have solved a robbery case invoving looting of electronic goods worth Rs 97 lakh late last month.

The suspected robbers were nabbed from Rajguru Nagar in Khed Taluka of Pune district, Inspector Kishore Khairnar (Local Crime Branch) said at a press meet here.

The electronic goods of a reputed global brand, being transported in a truck, were looted by a gang of robbers on the night of May 22 near here.

The consigment, which included LCD TVs, mobile phones, home theatre, handy cams, mobile acessories, among others, was being transported to Nagpur from Taloja, an industrial hub here.
 

The robbers, who were in a car, waylaid the truck in Cherpoli ghats on the Mumbai-Agra Highway. They pulled out the driver and escaped with the truck, which was later found abandoned at Ojhar in adjoining Nashik district.

LCB sleuths carried out an extensive search and coordinated with their counterparts in Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik. They traced the accused in Khed taluka and arrested them, police said.

The suspects were identified as Navnath Sudham Mhase, Rohidas Kashinath Hole (both 34), Sachin Balkrishna Gadwe (27) and Somnath Ashok Hande (30). The booty was kept in the house of Rohidas and has been seized, police added.
