Three members of a family who murdered the mother and brother of a boy whom their sister had married against their wishes, have been sentenced by a Delhi court to imprisonment for their entire life.
Besides the life term to the girl's two brothers Dilshad (31) and Naushad (28) and their relative Hasin Hussan (34), additional sessions judge Inderjeet Singh awarded the jail term to their neighbour Naushad (35) for also attempting to kill the sister of the boy due to the family feud.
"Imprisonment for life means till the life of convicts exists, it stands clarified," the court said.
It, however, acquitted Dilshad's mother Shamim, brother Israr and one Ranu Kumar due to lack of evidence. The eighth accused in the case, who was a minor at that time, is facing trial before the juvenile justice board.
The convicts had on March 27, 2006, illegally entered the house of their neighbour Ishrat, with whom their sister had eloped, and murdered his mother Anisha and brother Pappu and attempted to kill his sister Heena by shooting at them and stabbing with knives.
The court noted that the convicts and complainant were neighbours and the bitterness among them was a family feud as Dilshad's sister Shabnam had married Ishrat without her family's permission.
It imposed a fine of Rs 91,000 each on Dilshad and Hussan and Rs 80,000 each on the other two convicts and a portion of the amount would be given to the victims' family.
According to police, the eight accused had conspired to kill Shabnam, her husband Ishrat, Pappu and Anisha and other family members on March 25, 2006 in northeast Delhi.
The accused had trespassed the house of the victims in the night and caused injuries to Pappu, his mother Anisha and sister Heena with country-made pistols and knives, it said.
They had assaulted the victims after tying them on the roof of their house. While Pappu and Anisha succumbed to the injuries, Heena is still undergoing medical treatment.
Shabnam and her husband were saved as they were not at home at the time of the incident.
The convicts sought leniency on the ground that they are not involved in any other case and they are not dangerous for the society.
