Four killed, 11 injured in road mishap in Jharkhand

Four members of a marriage party were killed and 16 others injured when the pick up van they were travelling in hit a road-side tree in Chatra district, police said today.

The incident occurred last night when the driver of the vehicle who was in an inebriated state lost control over the vehicle on the Itkhori-Chatra national highway near Gandharia village and hit the tree about 12 km from here, the police said.

Four persons were killed on the spot while the 11 others suffered serious injuries, the police said.

A police team led by the officer-in-charge of Chatra police station, Inspector Ram Awadh Singh rushed to the spot and shifted all the injured to the district hospital.

 

The doctors of the hospital, referred all the seriously injured to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi, where they are undergoing treatment, Singh said.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has expressed grief over the incident and expressed condolence to the bereaved families.

In a statement, he directed the officials to ensure proper treatment to the injured persons.
