Four killed, 30 injured in road accidents in Uttarakhand

Four persons were killed and 30 injured today in separate road accidents in Tehri and Rudraprayag districts of Uttarakhand.

According to state disaster mitigation centre here, three persons were killed and 29 others were injured today when the bus they were travelling in fell into a 50 metre deep gorge in Kirtinagar area of Tehri district.

The accident occurred this afternoon near Takoli village in Tehri district when the overloaded mini bus was on its way from Lambgaon to Shrinagar in Pauri district, Kirtinagar police station authorities said.

Three persons were killed on the spot whereas 29 sustained injuries.

The injured were admitted to the nearby Shrikot hospital where the condition of five continues to be serious, they said, adding the reasons behind the accident are yet to be ascertained but overloading could be a cause.
 

In another mishap in Rudraparayag's Naili Kut area, a tractor driver was killed and his helper was injured when it fell off the road and turned turtle.

Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul and Chief Minister Harish Rawat have expressed grief at the loss of lives in the two accidents.
