Four killed after lightning strikes them in Thane, Palghar

Four persons were killed and nine others injured in separate incidents after lightning struck them in adjoining Thane and Palghar districts, according to officials of the district disaster cell.

A person identified as Shankar Kakad (49) of Amgaon in Wada died after being struck by lightning while he was walking around 4.30 pm. He died on the spot, said District Disaster Cell Officer (DDCO) at Palghar Vivekananda Kadam.

The official added that three others sustained injuries due to lightning strike at a village in Mokhada.

In Thane district, one Ramesh Mukne (30) who was working in his farm died on the spot after lightning struck him in Mahapoli, DDCO Asmita Nikam said.
 

At least six others were also injured in other parts of the district due to lightning, she said, adding, the injured were being treated at government hospitals.

In yet another incident two persons, who had taken shelter below a tree near chicken factory in a village in Ganeshpuri, died after lightning struck them, said the Thane district officials today.

The names of the two deceased were given as Deepak Patil (32) of Alonde and Swapnil Godvinde (22) of Marathepada of Koshimbe.
