Four killed, eight injured in road mishap in UP

Four persons were killed and eight others injured after being crushed by a jeep in Kotwali area here, police said today.

The incident occurred last night when the jeep driver lost control over the vehicle and ran over the victims who were walking on the roadside near Kaithalia village, they said.

Four persons, identified as Vishwanath (50), Shravan (35), Vishal (22) and Premlata (52) died on the spot, they said.

Eight persons were seriously injured and have been referred to Varanasi for treatment.

A case has been registered against the unidentified jeep driver who is absconding, they said, adding, agitated locals also blocked the road in protest.
